Alaska Mountaineering

The mountains surrounding Haines provide the quintessential Alaskan climbing experience. From the snowy heights of Mt. Fairweather to the airy rock ridges and steep ice of unclimbed peaks and towering seracs, these mountains and glaciers are the ideal learning location for everyone from the novice mountaineer to the seasoned adventurer.


Alaska Ski Mountaineering
12 and 24 days

The mountains surrounding Haines and Skagway have been heralded as North America’s top skiing and ski mountaineering location. Steep couloirs, undulating bowls and exposed spines combine with high quality, consistent snow for the skiing adventure and wilderness education of a lifetime.


Alaska Rock & Ice
12 and 24 days

This course is structured to give students a solid foundation of vertical climbing skills from a professional guiding perspective. Our rock climbing location hosts everything from easy toprope climbs and difficult multipitch routes, to sweeping alpine faces. The Davidson Glacier just a few miles from Haines creating a playground of ice formations.


Alaska Sea Kayaking
12 and 24 days

The IWLS Glacier Bay National Park paddling center, located in Gustavus, AK, offers access to expedition paddling that is unrivaled in North America. IWLS is one of only two organizations permitted by the National Park Service to lead multi-day courses and expeditions in the park.


Yukon Backpacking & Whitewater
12 and 24 days

Canada’s Yukon Territory contains some of the wildest rivers and remote backcountry areas on the continent that have lured adventurers for years. From huge, braided glacial drainages to tight gorges and plunging waterfalls, the rivers of the Yukon offer varied features, perfect for learning and polishing skills.


Mexico Volcanoes
12 days

The Mexico Volcanoes of Iztaccíhuatl (17,160ft/5,230m) and Pico de Orizaba (18,491ft/5,636m) tower above the surrounding fields and villages. These glaciated peaks offer students exciting mountaineering challenges, an engaging classroom and an outstanding introduction to international mountaineering at altitude.


Ecuador Volcanoes
24 days

The glaciated volcanic peaks rising from the Andean Plateau of central Ecuador are ideal for gaining the experience necessary to be a competent and proficient mountaineer. Cayambe (18,997ft/5,790m), Cotopaxi (19,347ft/5,897m) and Chimborazo (20,701ft/6,310m) are spectacular peaks and offer students a great initial high altitude experience.

 

First Aid
24 – 200 hours

While some time is spent in a classroom, our courses utilize a scenario-based, hands-on, practical approach to the curriculum. Once you’ve learned the tools for assessment, treatment, and transport in a backcountry setting, you’ll practice numerous scenarios incorporating problem solving, teamwork, communications and client care.
