Enroll with IWLS for an unrivaled wilderness education experience. Follow the steps below to sign up for one of our programs.

We utilize an online document signing service, Formstack, for the majority of our paperwork. This is free to you and helps ensure all documents are easily completed and sent to us with the least amount of work on your end. When you place your deposit, you will receive an automated packet with the necessary registration forms for your trip.

In order to Register complete the following steps:
    1. Call our office to determine availability and reserve your space with a deposit. (1-800-766-3396)
    2. One of our Expedition's Admin team will reach out to you with a Welcome Letter, including all important information. Shortly after, you will receive a link to Formstack, where you will be able to fill out Registration Forms and Waivers.

All registration materials must be returned 45 days prior to the trip departure date.
 
DEPOSITS: A deposit will reserve your space on any of our courses. Full payment is due 90 days prior to departure.

  • $500 or 25% of trip cost (whichever is less) for a single domestic course
  • $500 for helicopter programs
  • $500 for a single international course
  • $750 for a domestic semester (2-4 courses)
  • $1000 for an international semester (2-4 courses)

 

PAYMENTS: We accept personal checks, cashiers checks, money orders, wire transfers and most major credit cards. If you would like to use a wire transfer, please contact us for details.
 
REFUNDS: In the event that you are unable to join us, the following guidelines will apply. All deposits include a $150 non-refundable registration fee. Full refunds, less registration fee, will be provided 90 days prior to the start date. 50% refunds will be provided 60-89 days prior to start date. The 50% retained by IWLS can be credited towards another course if used within 12 months. No refunds will be provided with in 59 days of the start date. This policy has been established to meet the demands of planning well-organized courses and programs. If for any reason a course ends early there will be no refund. If you have not paid in full 90 days prior to your trips departure, and you have not contacted us regarding other payment options, we reserve the right to schedule another individual in your place. In this event, you are responsible for any associated costs.
 
COLLEGE CREDIT: The IWLS college Credit program is unparalleled in wilderness education. To apply for college credit for an IWLS course, please see our College Credit information and Contact Us. College credit is not available after your course is complete. Please contact IWLS to register for credits at least four months before your course start date.
 
IF YOUR TRIP IS CANCELLED: If, for any reason, the International Wilderness Leadership School has to cancel your course, all deposits and trip payments will be refunded in full, or, are fully transferable to another course. IWLS will not be responsible for any costs associated with cancellations including, but not limited to: flight cancelation fees, flight change fees, and/or associated lodging and meal fees.
 
WEATHER DELAYS, INTERRUPTIONS, AND ASSOCIATED CONSIDERATIONS: In the event that your trip is unable to depart at the scheduled time, individuals are responsible for any associated costs including food and lodging. Furthermore, weather or other challenges may make it difficult to cover all course curriculum points. In the event that a course is delayed or changed, IWLS is not responsible for any delays or changes in course structure.
 
RELEASE, ACKNOWLEDGMENT OF RISK & INDEMNITY AGREEMENT: All participants are required to sign our Release, Acknowledgment of Risk and Indemnity Agreement. Please take time to read this form and make yourself familiar with it before signing. If the form is signed electronically, participants may be required to sign the form in person upon arrival for the activity, but nothing shall be deemed to affect the efficacy of the electronically completed and signed form.
 
MEDICAL, TRAVEL, & CANCELLATION INSURANCE: IWLS requires that all students have their own health insurance. Individuals are responsible for any medical costs, including all associated rescue, evacuation, and transportation costs. Please take time to review your medical insurance policy. Make certain that your coverage extends to the location of your trip, and that it provides coverage for any potential associated costs, including rescue and evacuation. Many policies will provide coverage for travel abroad for a small additional fee. We highly recommend Travel Guard trip insurance through AIG.
 
PARTICIPANT RESPONSIBILITY: Course participants are responsible for their own well-being. This includes good health and strong physical condition. Participants joining a course are required to obtain a physician’s release prior to departure. Course members are responsible for: knowing all pre-departure information, preparing proper equipment and clothing, conforming to basic standards of personal hygiene (to minimize the risk of travelers diseases) and acting in a considerate manner toward all group members and with respect for each country’s customs. Participants are prohibited from using illegal drugs and alcohol while on IWLS courses. Participant gives their consent for IWLS to use their photograph, likeness and/or voice to be used in its publications, including its website. Participant’s responsibilities further include the following: (1) they are responsible for reviewing the various forms, releases, and information contained in the web site and forms; (2) they will follow the instructions and directions of guides and expedition leaders. For individuals dealing with behavioral, motivational or rehabilitation issues, IWLS is not an appropriate choice. Participants must be able to meet the physical, mental, social or safety demands of our courses. Students may be expelled if IWLS deems their behavior unsafe, disruptive, or distracting from the educational goal of their course/expedition. Harassment, use of drugs and alcohol, theft or misuse of property, low motivation and disregarding instructions are examples of behavior that will lead to expulsion. If a student is expelled there will be no refund, and the student is responsible for costs incurred from their expulsion.

INFORMATION WE COLLECT: We recognize your right to confidentiality and are committed to protecting your privacy.We use the information that we collect on our web sites to provide you with a superior customer service experience and to communicate with you about products, services, and promotions. Your privacy is very important to us. Be assured that we do not sell or distribute our customer list to third parties.
 
SECURITY: When you place a deposit/payment online, your personal information and credit card or debit card information are encrypted using SSL encryption technology before being sent over the Internet. We use SSL technology to prevent your information from being stolen or intercepted while being transferred to us and once we have received it. Your credit card information is always stored in encrypted form in a restricted-access database that is away from our Web site database so it is not connected to the Internet, to keep it safe from hackers. However, no method of transmission over the Internet, or electronic storage is 100% secure. Therefore, while we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.
