College Credit
The Colleges and Universities affiliated with IWLS are quality institutions all across the United States. Together, we provide the highest level of wilderness leadership education available.
College credit is available through our IWLS Guide and Leadership Programs through our partnerships with these colleges and universities. Each university's requirements may be different; we will work with individual colleges to ensure that their requirements and our curriculum mesh seamlessly.
Association for Experiential Education We are proud to have been accredited by the AEE since 2008. IWLS is one of the few outdoor programs in North America to pass and maintain the rigorous standards for accreditation held by the AEE. We routinely coordinate with the AEE for external reviews to ensure that our standards are the best in the industry.
American Canoe AssociationMany of our sea kayaking courses incorporate ACA technical training. Certification is available for these ACA courses.
Wilderness Medical SocietyOur Wilderness First Responder courses are taught according to the guidelines of the Wilderness Medical Society.

How will I know if my college accepts IWLS courses for credit?
Check with your academic advisor to see if IWLS already has a relationship with your school. If we don't work with your school yet, have them contact us and we will begin the process.
Can I apply for college credit after my IWLS course?
College credit is not available after your course is complete. Please contact IWLS to register for credits at least four months before your course start date. It takes time to work with individual universities to ensure that your college credits will be counted before your course begins.
How many credits will my IWLS course count towards?
That's a great question for your academic advisor! It will vary with your program and your school.
Do I need any forms to give my academic advisor to get college credit?
We will work directly with your school to make sure that you receive your credit. You may need to provide proof of a deposit, but we will send your school the necessary forms to earn college credit.
Can I still get college credit if I'm not currently enrolled in a school?
Unfortunately, we can only work with a school you are already enrolled in. Contact us for schools we work with closely; you may be able to enroll in one of them before your course to earn credit!
